Summer school is officially in session for the inaugural BendPoly class.

Sixteen students, a mix of undergrads and graduate students from University of Oregon, OSU-Cascades, George Fox, Hawaii Pacific and Cornell, started a six-week deep dive into digital marketing today right here in the high desert.

The idea is give them some practical skills that will complement their college education — and help them find jobs once they graduate. BendPoly was founded by Bruce Cleveland, a Bay Area tech veteran and venture capitalist who now calls Bend home. Cari Baldwin, CEO of Bend-based Bluebird Strategies, serves as the school’s chief instruction officer.

In addition to Baldwin, this summer’s students will benefit from a roster of experienced guest instructors from companies including Google, Zendesk, Content4Demand, Obility, and Host Analytics. Today’s keynote speakers were Cleveland and Jon Miller, co-founder of Marketo and current CEO of Engagio.

The students will spend their summer both learning in the classroom at the 1001 Tech Center (which also houses BendTECH’s co-working space) and applying their new found digital marketing skills to projects for local companies.
