The founders of BendPoly debuted GreenFig University, an expanded version of the two-year-old digital marketing school, today at the Marketing Nation Summit in San Francisco. GreenFig University will offer micro degrees in digital marketing related topics and more, including customer success, product, sales and finance.

From the news release:

GreenFig University is the outcome of a highly successful two-year pilot program called BendPoly (, located in Bend, Ore. More than 40 students participated in the BendPoly program with Marketo as a major sponsor and supporter. To date, more than 80 percent of the BendPoly graduates seeking roles in digital marketing have found positions in industry and government.

Bruce Cleveland, founding partner of Wildcat Ventures and co-founder of GreenFig University, says the first two years with BendPoly confirmed the demand from companies wanting qualified people to run Marketo and other digital marketing applications.

“The placement rates of the BendPoly program were remarkable. As a result, we elected to create GreenFig University, expand its scope beyond digital marketing, and scale the program nationally,” Bruce says.

The university will partner with Marketo, Inc., the leading provider of engagement marketing software and solutions, to co-develop a digital marketing course and support GreenFig’s instructors with delivery in select cities across the United States.

The first GreenFig University course is in Digital Marketing Science and will available this fall, with the semester starting Aug. 16. The course will offered in Austin, Bend, Chicago, New York and San Francisco, with 20 students accepted at each location.

The program will be physically broadcast over the GreenFig University Education Broadcasting Network from Bend and delivered in real-time to students in classrooms located in the selected cities. The founders note that additional locations will be considered if five or more qualified students in a specific metropolitan area enroll.

According to the GreenFig University, the courses are suited for people who possess critical thinking skills and a desire to learn, including:

  • Higher-education students who want to augment an academic program
  • Veterans
  • Professionals in career transition
  • Lifetime learners seeking new skills and market relevance

To learn more and apply, applicants should go to and complete the online application form by July 31. Applicants will be notified within five business days of their acceptance into the program. The cost of the course is $2,500 for veterans and students currently enrolled in a higher-education program. The cost for all others is $3,800 per student. GreenFig University does not currently offer financial aid.

In addition to helping students and working professionals prepare for the digital workforce, the new school’s partnership with Marketo means students can go onto to complete advanced Marketo courses.

Steve Lucas, Marketo CEO, said, “The GreenFig University digital marketing science program is well-aligned with our objectives for the new Marketo University. GreenFig University provides students with digital marketing concepts and the basic Marketo skills, proficiency and certification they need to gain entry-level positions. They are then well prepared to go on and complete advanced Marketo courses to further their careers.”

Congrats to Bruce, and co-founders Cari Baldwin and Libby Unger. Looking forward to seeing high-quality digital marketing education (and more) happening in Bend and beyond.
